While it has been a couple months since my last update, work continues. The underside of the hood has been sanded, cleaned up and painted with Eastwood Chassis Black. I opted to do this with a foam brush with the hood off. I also used Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating primer to prime between the two layers of the hood as best as I could. This product certainly makes it easier.
Because I forgot that I needed to drill holes out in the door jambs and the doors for the addition of vacuum operated locks and power windows, I went ahead and pulled the doors off to do so. While I had the off, I also remembered that I needed to clean up the seams of the doors and the bottoms of the doors, both of which had very light surface rust, or rust staining bleeding out from under the old, cracked seam sealer.
After a couple hours of wire-wheeling, I had everything looking beautiful. But, I know that if I leave the seams as they are, it won't take long before rust staining occurs at the seams again. While the seams were beautiful, I decided to apply seam sealer all the way around the perimeter of the doors. It definitely won't look as nice, but I'm hoping it will extend the life of the work I've put in.
I also took time to liberally spray the inside of the door at the seams with a rust converter primer, again in the hopes that it will help extend the time it will take for rust to rear it's ugly head.
At this point I'm almost finished with the sanding. Just have the front passenger door area and the passenger side rocker to complete. A couple small items to remove and then I can start to tape things off. Weather permitting, Sunday next week...
